Marc H. Morgenstern is the managing partner and founder of high-growth, early-stage investor Blue Mesa Partners, mentor-at-large for The House Fund and has taught Street Smart Startups at UC Berkeley. He’s a veteran dealmaker and entrepreneur with over 400 successful transactions, and billions of dollars of buying, selling, and financing innovative and disruptive businesses. He was the first investor (and Founding Lawyer) in global retailer OfficeMax, Co-Founder of digital healthcare collaboration software company Within3 (sold to Insight Partners), and Chair of Strategic Planning for authentication technology leader CardinalCommerce (sold to VISA). Marc was the long-time CEO/Managing Partner (and nationally recognized deal lawyer) for an entrepreneurial law firm (Kahn Kleinman, merged into Taft) and later a San Francisco-based Equity Partner for a national law firm (Sonnenschein, merged into Dentons). He’s a passionate Deadhead, as well as a blues and rock musician and has been on the Board of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1994, as well as San Francisco’s Rex Foundation (founded by the Grateful Dead) since 2011. Marc speaks and writes about deals, negotiating, investors, and early-stage companies, and has authored Off Road Capital’s Definitive Deal Dictionary. His observations have appeared in the New York Times, CNBC’s Squawk Box, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle. He earned his BA in American Studies/American Social History from Yale and JD from Boston University. His time is divided among San Francisco, Los Angeles, Cleveland, his wife, two adult children, a grandson, and his piano.
